Infrared roof inspection saves $100,000
A persistent leak in a 28,000 square foot built-up roof
stimulated a commercial building owner to find the
cause. Using a FLIR ThermaCAM® infrared camera, John R. Tendorf of Murray
Roofing Company, Inc. was able to locate and mark off a relatively
small 1,200 square foot wet area, which was torn out and replaced.
Thanks to the infrared roof inspection, the building
owner escaped having to do a complete tear off and new roof installation,
which would have cost from $90,000 to $119,000. In comparison, the cost for the actual repair
was just $5,400 — yielding a cool $100,000 in savings!
APPLICATION NOTE: The ThermaCAM® RoofCAM
is a breakthrough lightweight and affordable infrared camera designed specifically
for the roofing industry. This self-contained, handheld device enables operators to
locate damage and/or deterioration caused by water leakage in roofing systems, as stated in
the ASTM C 1153 “Standard Practice for Location of Wet Insulation in Roofing Systems Using Infrared
Imaging.” The RoofCAM can save an enormous amount of time and money by pinpointing
and enabling the repair of wet, failed areas of a roof, rather than replacing an entire roofing
system.
